Piano in the Park + Stevie the Steam Train
Join us in Watermans Park on Saturday 16 August from 12pm for a celebration of local talent. Piano in the Park invites amateur pianists of all ages and musical styles to take part in a unique outdoor performance. There will be prizes too! The event is organised by Brentford Voice — you can find more information here.
At 3pm, The Arts Centre Hounslow’s “Stevie the Steam Train” will arrive from the London Museum of Water and Steam for some family-friendly theatre — don’t miss the train!
Deckchairs and cushions will be available, but feel free to bring your own seating or picnic blanket. There are gazebos for shade while you enjoy music and theatre in a beautiful setting.
Re-discovering the Bats of Brentford!
Following the success of our May Bat Walk, we’re offering another chance to detect and observe Brentford’s bats on Wednesday 27 August at 8:30pm, starting in St Paul’s Rec.
In May we detected several species: Western Barbastelle, Noctule, Nathusius’ Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle, and Common Serotine. This time, we hope to spot brown long-eared bats at St Lawrence’s Church — though, of course, sightings can’t be guaranteed.
Thanks to Habitats and Heritage for providing bat detectors for the evening. Please register your interest here so we know how many detectors to bring.
Gardening Club
On Saturday 6 September at 2pm, we’ll be:
- Weeding and tidying flower beds near the western entrance
- Training climbing plants over the pergolas
- Taking part in 10-minute flower-insect timed counts for the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme
It’s a great way to meet neighbours, support biodiversity, and enjoy the outdoors. Families welcome — please wear suitable clothing and gloves, and bring tools if you have them (we’ll also have some to share).
Raising Funds for Speak Out in Hounslow
At our July Summer Bandstands, the kindness and generosity of our community shone through — together we raised £230 for Speak Out in Hounslow. The funds came from the sale of beautiful cards and tote bags designed by SOH members, as well as from cash donations given with open hearts.
Speak Out changes lives. They empower adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to be heard, included, and celebrated. Their work builds confidence, self-expression, and community involvement — including a wonderful performance at the Summer Bandstand on 12 July.
Our JustGiving page is still open if you’d like to keep that momentum going – click here. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ensure that every voice in our community can be heard and valued.
